But, like the Aristotle of the metaphor of the ship's pilot, he holds that the soul is also a complete substance, capable of existing apart from the body which it forms. Such also, according to the teachings of Augustine, is the angelic soul, which is not an embodied soul; but the human soul has an "inclination" to the body. This inclination makes it possible for the human soul to be embodied, and after it is disembodied it will be reunited with the body at the final resurrection. , the passive part which merely receives the forms in things.
W e can decide whether any thesis is philosophical or theological, and if the former we can try to prove or disprove it philosophically; if the latter we have revelation to support or reject it.
